Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone is trying to put a referendum on November's ballot to merge the offices of Comptroller and Treasurer. This would eliminate seven jobs and save Suffolk about $1 million per year. Those supporting it say it is a wise fiscal move to save funds for a cash-strapped county. Those against it think it is a political maneuver and nothing else. Should Nassau County attempt the same merger of these two offices?
