On January 1, 2018, a new Suffolk County law will go into effect, charging a five-cent fee for plastic and paper carryout bags, at a variety of retail stores. Those in support of the fee believe it will protect the environment. Those against view it as a tax that will hurt local businesses. Would you support Nassau County imposing a five-cent fee on plastic and paper carryout bags?

My suggestion is as a volunteer for more than 12 years.
I believe Mr. Foskey erred by directing the use of a golf cart be stopped for the transportation of some of the older, dedicated . knowlegable, but less agile volunteers to and from the center and assigned houses in the Old Bethpage Restoration Village. Those volunteers who have trouble walking simply cannot manage to walk the distance on the stony, uneven roads.
I am fortunate, at the age of 80, and a volunteer for over 12 years to be able to do the walking. Today one gentleman, a volunteer for over 9 years, came in and left when informed he would have to walk, a task beyond his physical capability Others have the same problem.
It would be simple to solve this by simply driving those who need transportation down to the assigned buildings 10 minutes before opening time and at the end of the day reverse the procedure.
With the County relying on volunteers to fill spots emptied by budget cutbacks in these difficult times I believe anything that could ease the problems should be at least considered.

mirror mirror on the wall

If I were edlerly with so much left to give that I could and would actually volunteer myself to tend to some others properties... I would at least expect to be invited for free lunch and dinner and driven home after dark. Mirror mirror on the wall ...which one am I?

We need to keep our seniors

We need to keep our seniors engaged in the community. Not sure if this post is true however a successful community keeps all involved.
