On January 1, 2018, a new Suffolk County law will go into effect, charging a five-cent fee for plastic and paper carryout bags, at a variety of retail stores. Those in support of the fee believe it will protect the environment. Those against view it as a tax that will hurt local businesses. Many broadway theaters currently charge a huge premium for the best seats. Some sports teams charge one time licensing fees for season ticket holders. I suggest charging $1500 a year for 10% of the seats to anyone who wants first dibs on any concert or show at the new Nassau Coliseum. This would be about a $15 premium on each ticket. These seats already command a premium from scalpers and it would raise $2,500,000 per year to offset the cost of a new coliseum and keep the Islanders in Nassau. This charge would NOT apply to Islanders season ticket holders. Adam Haber
