On January 1, 2018, a new Suffolk County law will go into effect, charging a five-cent fee for plastic and paper carryout bags, at a variety of retail stores. Those in support of the fee believe it will protect the environment. Those against view it as a tax that will hurt local businesses. Would you support Nassau County imposing a five-cent fee on plastic and paper carryout bags?

Retiring Nassau County Legis. Fran Becker has introduced a bill that would raise the salaries of all county legislators. How can the legislators create and vote on bills that raise their own salaries? Where is the system of checks and balances? No wonder Nassau County has a budget deficit of $160 million. This practice should be abolished.

Checks and Balances

I'm quite certain that all those "nay" votes are County workers and legislators. I find it hard to believe that the average citizen (non-county worker), in Nassau would vote against this being abolished.
