On January 1, 2018, a new Suffolk County law will go into effect, charging a five-cent fee for plastic and paper carryout bags, at a variety of retail stores. Those in support of the fee believe it will protect the environment. Those against view it as a tax that will hurt local businesses. Would you support Nassau County imposing a five-cent fee on plastic and paper carryout bags?

My house is being assessed at $200K less than it was 7 years ago and yet my property taxes keep going up. How does that work??

Taxes

I think there needs some federal oversite on what local Gov'ts can tax people at. Whats to stop increases beyond all reason? We are already out of control....

I agree with the above, all

I agree with the above, all Nassau properties are being assessed lower, but because of pensions to retirees and out of control spending, especially with school administrators, we are getting killed in taxes. And are certainly not getting enough bang for our collective buck. Yet, there's not much we seem to be able to do because nobody feels they are obligated to listen or answer us when questioned on these things. It seems our elected official in this county have forgotten who they work for and the sad part, it doesn't matter which party, they all could care less. I was born here and have lived here my whole life, but now that my 40x100 plot of land carries $10.5k in taxes, it's just no longer worth it.
