On January 1, 2018, a new Suffolk County law will go into effect, charging a five-cent fee for plastic and paper carryout bags, at a variety of retail stores. Those in support of the fee believe it will protect the environment. Those against view it as a tax that will hurt local businesses. Lyft, Uber, VRBO and Airbnb are operating on Long Island and they should be taxed just as local businesses such as taxi, limo, motels and hotels are. This is a major reason sales tax revenue has been weak in Nassau over the last few years. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/01/22/technology/airbnb-takes-its-case-to-us...

Taxes

It is amazing! In the highest taxed county of the highest taxed state, the majority of the people seem to be voting for additional taxes in this economy. Try REDUCING TAXES to spur the economy. It sounds like many of our neighbors have more money than they need. If this is the case, please feel free to donate a large percentage of your assets to the town, city, state or the federal government. Your generosity will be appreciated.
